Hope for Frankfurt and Gießen: BBl awards Wildcard

Hope at the Sporty Antivers Frankfurt (17th) and Gießen (18th): The Basketball Bundesliga awards a wildcard for the coming season as in the previous year. According to the BBL announcement, the clubs spoke "with a large majority". The award procedure is expected to be initiated next Monday.

"With this day, the 10-day period begins in accordance with §15 BBL license statute. Within this period, interested clubs have to submit their application with the necessary documents and evidence in writing at BBL GmbH," said the BBL in a message.

Medipolis SC Jena and the Rostock Seaawolves were the only one of the possible sporting promoters from the 2nd league (ProA). Since only one of these two teams can reach the play-off final and thus the BBL qualification, the 18th place is open. The Fraport Skyliners from Frankfurt and the Jobstairs Giessen can apply for this. After examining the documents and evidence, the general meeting of BBL GmbH decides "whether one or which applicant acquires a right of participation".

It was only last year that the Gießeners stayed in the upper house thanks to a wildcard after the sporting descent.
