How ex-Schalke coach Breitenreiter FC Zurich formed the master out of nowhere
Andre Breitenreiter leads FC Zurich to the Swiss championship - a success in many ways.
Andre Breitenreiter missed that certain extra at the first master shower of his coaching career. "They still have to learn a lot here," said FC Zurich's coach and laughed - his players had not poured him with beer, but with isotonic drinks at the TV interview.
The mandatory beer shower later suffered him in the cabin, as Breitenreiter reported completely soaked. "I like to accept that, no problem at all." After all, the ex-coach of Paderborn, Schalke and Hanover had succeeded less than a sensation.
The tabloid Blick called the first title for FCZ since 2009 a "fairytale act" and praised Breitenreiter as a "star coach". The 48-year-old "exceeded the wildest expectations and made a decades of hussar". After all, Zurich had been traded as a relegation before the season. "Master out of nowhere," said the nzz and asked amazed: "How could that happen?"
The answer leads to Breitenreiter. After a break in which he processed the death of his mother and took care of his dementia father, he started again in Switzerland last summer. His recipe? "Communication, intuition and a clear game idea", namely raid-like offensive game in the 3-5-2 system.
